**Abstract:** Chen Huiren, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the China Machine Tool Industry Association, has returned from Vientiane and is now back in action. On the occasion of the New Year's Day, I would like to extend my warmest greetings and sincere wishes on behalf of the permanent establishment of the China Machine Tool Industry Association to all members, industry professionals, and institutions. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all leaders and people from various sectors who have shown care and support for the development of China's machine tool industry.

The year 2013 was a challenging one for the Chinese machine tool industry. With global economic rebalancing and China’s own economic restructuring, the environment for the industry continued to evolve, bringing both pressures and opportunities. Market conditions and growth drivers underwent significant changes, pushing the industry to adapt and innovate.
However, 2013 also marked an important turning point, as the pace of transformation and upgrading in the industry accelerated. After years of sustained downward pressure, there was a growing recognition of the long-term nature and complexity of this transformation. Industry players gradually shifted from passive adaptation to active engagement, embracing change with greater awareness and confidence.
Looking ahead, 2014 promises to be a pivotal year. The Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee and the recent Central Economic Work Conference have set the stage for comprehensive reforms. This will not only drive social innovation but also boost economic growth. These reforms are expected to create a more favorable environment for the industry’s transformation and upgrading, paving the way for new progress.
