The future lithium battery may be a film

Recently, researcher Tang Yongbing of the Institute of Functional Thin Film Materials, Institute of Advanced Technology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his research team have successfully developed an integrated ultra-fast and flexible battery with integrated structural design. This new type of structural design significantly improves the speed of the battery. Fast charge characteristics while maintaining high energy density and cycling performance.

Energy density and charge-discharge rate performance are two key performance indicators for lithium-ion batteries. How to effectively improve rate performance while maintaining high energy density is a major challenge for today's lithium-ion battery technology.

In addition, the rapid growth of industries such as drones, power tools, electric vehicles, smart medical devices, and robots has become an increasingly urgent need for energy storage devices with fast charging and fast discharging characteristics.

Based on the above considerations, Tang Yongbing and his team members Jiang Chunlei and Fang Yue and others proposed a new integrated flexible battery structure design concept and successfully developed an integrated flexible dual-ion battery with ultra-fast charge and discharge performance.

The team members constructed positive/negative anode active materials and current collectors on a separator with a porous structure to realize the design of a flexible structure in which battery positive/negative anode active materials, positive/negative cathode current collectors, and separators are integrated.

This new integrated battery structure design simplifies the manufacturing process of traditional lithium-ion batteries, and significantly improves the battery's ability to fast charge and discharge.

The integrally designed 3D negative electrode material improves the contact area between the active material and the electrolyte, effectively reducing the transmission impedance of electrons and ions; at the same time, the integration of the active material and current collector interface further enhances the electronic transmission at the interface. Efficiency, under the synergistic effect of the two, the battery's rate performance has been greatly improved.

The results show that the new battery has ultra-high rate performance of 120 C (charging and discharging time is about 30 seconds). The battery can maintain a high power density of 232 Wh/kg while achieving an ultra-high power density of 22634 W/kg. .

The research results are expected to be applied in the field of flexible wearable electronic devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, robots, etc. The integrated flexible structure design ideas also have guiding significance for improving the fast charge and fast discharge performance of other energy storage devices.
