Following the popular two-color coated indexable inserts, Walter has introduced a new blade for machining, Tigertec-STEEL. This new insert continues the excellent performance of the Tiger Blade in milling and drilling applications. It has a smooth surface, enhanced toughness and friction for a more stable and smooth process. The new series of blades, like previous products, have indicator coatings that show wear.
The main difference between Tigertec-STEEL and other Tigertec inserts is that the coating thickness is 30 thicker than conventional Tigertec inserts, which enhances blade stability and reduces blade distortion. The coatings are bonded by an extraordinary intermediate layer (Fig. 1) to ensure adhesion of the coating during machining. The new coating reduces the amount of side wear more effectively, which results in continuous and efficient machining, with a minimum of 30 performance improvements while ensuring longer tool life.
