Britain re-qualifies Chinese plywood business

Due to the impact of reduced inventory and future supply shortages, British plywood importers have been actively increasing inventories in recent weeks. However, due to the uncertainty of future demand, the increase in transportation costs and changes in the exchange rate of the US dollar and the British pound, most importers still have limited enthusiasm for imports. The British tropical hardwood plywood market is now mainly influenced by raw materials from China and Malaysia. Expectations of low prices and a decrease in the market share of raw materials have caused Indonesia to gradually lose its market in the UK.

The trade of tropical hardwood plywood in the UK is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a larger importer. This is mainly due to the fact that new construction projects in the UK are mainly concentrated in the public financial sector, which adds a lot of pressure to product suppliers. Products must have FSC and PEFC certification.

Many large importers have tightened their certification requirements. For example, B & Q, the UK ’s largest DIY retailer, announced in September that they are only buying tropical hardwood plywood with FSC certification. Similarly, international plywood, one of the UK's largest importers, recently reported that in the past 5 years, their sales of certified products have increased from 0% to 20% . By 2009 , this number had risen to 35% . In the near future, their cork products will also have to be certified.

Controversy over quality issues and mislabeling issues continue to plague China's miscellaneous wood plywood in the UK for export. Recently, a large number of Chinese hardwood face poplar plywood have been detained in Belfast Port due to counterfeit labels.

According to the British Trade News report, the Belfast government health and environment department has detained nearly 80 containers of BB / CC grade plywood, with a thickness from 5.5-18 mm. The department pointed out that through the investigations in China and Europe, the CE + 2 logo was forged on the product. The product has now been relocated to the CE + 4 level. Sexual applications. In order to solve the quality problems of plywood in China, the British government designated the BM trademark certification department to develop a Q-mark certification system. This system has surpassed the CE certification and has been used in plywood products produced by plywood factories in the UK that have lost confidence in China.
