According to statistics from the Japan Working Machinery Industry Association, the United States replaced China as the largest exporter of Japanese machine tools for the first time in December 2012. Since then, the United States has been the largest exporter of Japanese machine tools in 2013. This trend will continue in 2014. Statistics show that from January to November 2013, the export value of Japanese machine tools was 645.229 billion yen, of which the amount of machine tools exported to China was 133.174 billion yen, down 54.1% year-on-year; while the amount of machine tools exported to the United States was 204.279 billion. The yen increased by 10.0% year-on-year. Since December 2012, the United States has maintained the largest exporter of Japanese machine tools, regardless of the number of months or total.

Specifically, in 2012, Japan’s exports of machine tools to China amounted to US$305.617 billion, accounting for 36.5% of Japan’s machine tool exports. In the same period, Japan’s exports of machine tools to the United States amounted to 202.698 billion yen, accounting for 24.2% of Japan’s machine tool exports. In 2013, from January to November, China accounted for 20.6% of Japan's machine tool exports; while the United States became the largest exporter of Japanese machine tools in the same period, accounting for 31.7%.

According to analysis, since the second half of this year, the US economy has improved significantly, the PMI index has remained at a high level and continues to rise. The demand for equipment in the US manufacturing industry has expanded, and the machine tool market is very hot, especially in the aerospace industry and in the fields of automobile manufacturing and energy.
