Since Obama took office, U.S. solar power capacity has grown tenfold, while wind power has tripled. The cost of solar systems has dropped by about 50% in just three years, making them more accessible. As a result, by 2013, solar energy accounted for about 25% of total U.S. power generation, ranking second only to natural gas.
Several major corporations have also announced their participation. Apple and Yahoo are planning to install solar power systems within their facilities, while Google has committed $1 million in funding for breakthroughs in next-generation power control systems (PCS).
