The strong pull of the Henan industrial agglomeration area is gaining significant attention. On the 10th, a forum titled "Industrial Cluster Cultivation and Industrial Upgrading" was held at the Beijing Henan Building. Renowned experts and scholars from Beijing participated, offering valuable insights and recommendations. Originally scheduled to end at 11:00 am, the event extended until 1:00 pm, highlighting its importance and the enthusiasm of attendees.
The industrial clusters are seen as a crucial driving force behind the realization of the "Henan Dream." At the meeting, Yang Jianguo emphasized that these clusters not only provide investment opportunities for local entrepreneurs but also create a fair and open environment for development, fueling the province’s aspirations.
According to recent data from the Provincial Bureau of Statistics, in the first half of this year, the industrial added value of Henan's industrial clusters rose by 17.5% year-on-year, outpacing the provincial average by 6.4 percentage points. These clusters accounted for 45% of the province’s total industrial output and contributed 69.8% to industrial growth. Moreover, the total investment in the 180 industrial clusters reached 546.08 billion yuan, making up 50.3% of the province’s overall investment.
Experts believe that the initiative on industrial cluster cultivation aims to accelerate Henan’s development and foster sustainable growth. The forum brought together voices from across the country, all eager to contribute to the province’s progress.
**Expert Evaluation: Agglomeration Areas as Economic Growth Poles**
Chen Xitian, chairman of the Global Business Newspaper Alliance, praised Henan for finding a unique path amid the rise of the Central Plains Economic Zone. He noted that the province did not simply follow trends but instead carved out a new model tailored to its needs. With 180 industrial clusters mostly located in county-level cities, he believes they will become key drivers of local economic growth.
Zhang Fan, deputy director of the Central Propaganda Department, highlighted that Henan, with its large population and agricultural base, faces challenges in transitioning from an agrarian economy to an industrial one. He argued that industrial agglomeration is the most viable path toward sustainable development.
**Industry Suggestions: Focus on Service Clusters**
Yi Peng, vice president of the China Urban Development Strategy Research Association, pointed out that while Henan has made great strides, there is still room for improvement. He suggested focusing more on service industries, as manufacturing alone may not be enough to sustain long-term growth. He also urged the development of aviation logistics in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone to support urban and industrial integration.
Feng Shouwen, president of the China Association for the Development of the Aged Industry, noted the lack of elderly care-related industrial clusters in Henan. Given the province's large aging population, he proposed developing an "Elderly Cultural Industry Zone" to tap into this growing market.
**Layout Strategies: Optimize for Efficiency**
Wang Yuanzhi, director of the China Industrial Development Promotion Association, stressed the importance of strategic planning in industrial agglomeration. He advocated for optimizing layouts, fostering emerging industries, and promoting innovation and sustainability.
Qiu Xiaohua, chief economist at Minsheng Securities, emphasized the need for targeted investment strategies. He advised against broad, inefficient approaches and instead recommended focusing on specific industries and leveraging comparative advantages for efficient and green development.
**Investment Path: Leverage Specialization**
Chen Xitian suggested that Henan should focus on niche industries and specialized investment models, similar to successful examples in Guangdong. He encouraged attracting SMEs and avoiding large-scale, costly investment campaigns. By focusing on quality over quantity, Henan can achieve greater impact with fewer resources.
