Scientists develop thinking-controlled implants

According to media reports, scientists at the ETH Zurich in Zurich have developed a new type of implant activated by brain waves that allows transgenic cells to release a specific type when needed. protein.

Led by Professor Martin Fussenegger, the R&D team completed the invention of the implant, which incorporates an LED lamp that emits near-infrared light along a chamber containing cells. When the light is on, the implant will cause the cell to release a protein called SEAP.

Researchers have tested human cell cultures and mice, and volunteers wearing EEG (EEG, electrical activity monitoring brain) headphones can activate the implant. The acquired readings are transmitted to the controller via Bluetooth, which activates the magnetic field generator around the implant.

In mice, SEAP proteins can diffuse from the chamber to the surrounding tissue and circulate as the body circulates.

The researchers divided the volunteers into three groups, each attempting to activate the implant device in a different state of mind. The first group of members focused on Minecraft games, while wearing headphones, they produced a more average number of SEAPs. The second group of members relax their brains through meditation, and they produce higher levels of SEAP protein. The third group used biofeedback, which was able to see the implant and consciously try to illuminate the LED light.

The results show that the number of SEAPs produced by the subjects varies from subject to subject. In this regard, Professor Martin Fussenegger said that this is a new way of genetic control.
