Oriented structure wheat straw board (OSSB) is a kind of board produced from wheat straw. Its production process was researched and gradually improved by the Alberta Research Institute of Canada in the mid-1980s. Buildings built with OSSB have better insulation, resulting in 25% less carbon emissions than traditional brick and cement-built homes, a one-fifth reduction in heating demand and a quarter of cooling demand. The Lindsson Company, headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands, recently invested 250 million yuan to build the world's first directional structure wheat straw board production line in Yangling, Shaanxi, opening up new areas for green sheet metal.

He told reporters that the wheat straw in the core part of the wheat straw board is arranged horizontally and the outside is vertically arranged, so that the artificial board made of wood chips and the like is stronger and the performance is more stable. Because of its good thermal insulation performance, it can reduce the energy consumption of heating and cooling in the room, which is beneficial to reduce the release of greenhouse gases. At the same time, this sheet does not use formaldehyde, which is good for human health and environmental protection. In addition, the replacement of wood with wheat straw can also reduce the amount of wood felling, better protect forests and cultivated land, and promote economic cycle and sustainable development.

The road to good wishes is often full of twists and turns. When Lindson took the feasibility report and went to find an international financial company specializing in developing country loans, he finally ate a closed door. "They don't believe that wheat straw can be used as building materials, and that this project will inevitably fail. However, Mr. Lindson did not give up. “I experienced a lot of things like this. When I was 25, I went to the former Soviet Union to build a green greenhouse to produce vegetables. The locals thought that I was crazy. In the end, Lindsohn finally found a few like-minded friends, and the partnership funded the Lindesen Board Company, which plans to produce green and environmentally friendly new plates in China using wheat straw as raw material. He explained to reporters that OSSB has various advantages of natural wood, and eliminates the disadvantages of low natural strength and easy cracking of natural wood; its physical, economic and environmental properties are superior to wood oriented structural particle board (OSB). . In addition, wheat straw is a waste of wheat after harvest, which is cheaper and easier to obtain. OSSB is also widely used, can replace OSB, used for concrete formwork, load-bearing / non-load-bearing walls, interior decoration, etc., its flame retardancy is also better than OSB, to meet the US and Canadian government housing fire standards. In the future, this sheet can also be applied to other industries such as pianos, speakers, elevator splints and container floors.

Lindsson took the reporter to the new factory in Yangling. On the open-air yard, a bundle of bundled wheat straw is neatly packed, and a huge forklift is feeding 500 kilograms of wheat straw into the production line. Lin Desen said that these wheat straw bales have been subjected to multiple processes such as scattering, impurity removal, shearing, viscose, cooling, inspection, molding, etc., and finally, a piece of "oriented structure wheat straw board" came out. One of the key processes in production is the cutting and cutting. The tubular wheat straw is cut into a sheet shape only after it has been cut into a certain length, and the surface can fully contact the adhesive. At the same time, the air is completely removed during the pressing process, so that the wheat straw board has higher strength. At first, the company looked for 500 college students to cut and cut by hand. It was slow and labor-intensive. Later, the machine cutting technology was invented, which greatly improved the work efficiency. “The water content of wheat straw is only 14%, and the wood is 50%. Therefore, the wheat straw board in the drying section saves a lot of energy compared with the wood board, and no waste gas and waste water are produced in the production process. However, the cost of collecting wheat straw is high, if Can't be put into the warehouse in time, once it meets the rain, it will smash in the ground. We are developing a technology that can reduce the related costs by 40% after success."

In the just-started production workshop, Lindsay told reporters that the plant can digest 40,000 tons of wheat straw a year, and the continuous press of key equipment on the production line is produced in China. “There are only two companies in the world that can produce this type of continuous press. One of them is Shanghai Wood-based Panel Machinery Co., Ltd. We have decisively handed over the order to them. Now the first OSSB continuous press produced in China is already in Here we operate. We plan to open two or three OSSB factories and light steel structure factories in the main wheat producing areas of Henan, Hebei and Shandong every year, and convert more wheat straw into green building materials."

Mr. Lindson said that OSSB has broad application prospects in China. The materials used in the Vanke Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo are their “oriented structure wheat straw boards”. In the next step, they hope to build a batch of 5-6 floors in the second and third tier cities of China, and open up the home improvement market. “The cost of housing donated by Mianzhu is only 950 yuan per square meter, and local farmers are very interested in it.”
