The new standard requires that any closed or confined space in children's furniture—such as a wardrobe or cabinet—must have ventilation openings. This helps prevent accidents where a child might get trapped inside. Make sure that the furniture you choose has at least two unobstructed vents, each with a minimum size of 650mm², and that the door doesn’t lock automatically with a small opening force.
3. Look for Rounded Edges and Protective Covers
Sharp edges and protrusions can be very dangerous for young children. New regulations require that all accessible edges and corners below 1.6 meters must be rounded or chamfered, with a radius of at least 10mm. If there are any sharp parts, they should be covered with protective caps. Always check the furniture for these features before purchasing.

While testing the total formaldehyde content in finished furniture is difficult, you can use your sense of smell to detect strong odors.
