Domestic tinplate production status and market outlook

Consumer demand grew steadily. As the economy heats up, people’s living standards gradually increase, and the awareness of environmental protection increases. The demand for tinplate will continue to increase. Industry insiders believe that by 2006, China will consume 2 million tons of tinplate and reach 2.5 million tons in 2009. In 2012, it will reach 3 million tons of annual consumption.
1. Application area
Tinplate (mainly referred to as tinplate) is commonly known as tinplate. It refers to cold-rolled low-carbon steel sheets or strips coated with commercially pure tin on both sides. It combines the strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, solderability and aesthetic appearance of tin. It combines corrosion resistance, non-toxicity, high strength, and good ductility, and is widely used in foods. , beverages, oils, chemicals, paints, paints, aerosol cans, bottle caps and many other daily necessities, such as various beverage cans, food cans, beer caps and so on.
As can be seen from Figure 1, domestic tinplates for foods, beverages, and spray cans, which have higher technical requirements, account for about 50% of current tinplate consumption.

2 major domestic manufacturers
Since 1979, when Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation introduced a set of electroplating tin units with a design capacity of 100,000 t/a from Germany, the production of tinplate in China has achieved tremendous development. Table 1 lists the major tinplate manufacturers in China.

Zhongshan Zhongyue, Guangdong started construction of a tinplate baseplate plant project in December 2005. The total investment of the project is 330 million yuan. It is planned to be completed and put into production by the end of 2006. After the completion of the project, the main raw material of tinplate used in Zhongyue tinplate production will be partially self-sufficient, changing the past situation of relying solely on imports will effectively solve the “bottleneck” problem of raw materials that restrict the development of China and Guangdong.
Jiangsu Uni-President created a large-scale foreign-invested company with a total investment of US$90 million invested jointly by Taiwan Uni-Union Industrial Co., Ltd., Japan Kawasaki Steel Co., Ltd., Chuankuang Corporation, and Dongmian Co., Ltd.
Fujian Reunification is a large-scale foreign-owned enterprise established by Taiwan Uniform Industries Co., Ltd. with a total investment of US$130 million.
Baosteel already has two tinplate production lines of 1220 and 1420. In March 2006, each tin and chrome plating production line with an annual output of 200,000 tons was started. It is expected to start production at the end of 2006. At that time, Baosteel will become one of the major manufacturers of tinplate products with annual output of 1 million tons, which covers all major varieties of tinplate.
Hainan Haiyu's transformation was completed in July 2006, which increased the production capacity of tinplate from the original designed 100,000 tons/year to 150,000 tons/year.
Guangzhou Pacific was jointly invested by Nippon Steel, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Itochu Marubeni Corporation, Hong Kong Beihai Group, Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone Industrial Development Group Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Brewery. Planned production capacity increased to 200,000 t/year.
The main shareholders of Fujian Zhongrida include Taiwan Donghe Iron and Steel and Japan JFE Steel.
Wuxi Xindazhong is a Sino-Hong Kong joint venture with a total assets of 1.7 billion. It can produce 600,000 tons of pickling plates, 10,000 tons of cold-rolled sheets, 300,000 tons of galvanized sheet, 300,000 tons of galvanized sheet, and 250,000 tons of color-coated sheets. Tons, tin plate 200,000 tons, paint 10,000 tons.
Fengyang Caitu Co., Ltd. is negotiating a joint venture with South Korea’s Pohang to produce a new tinplate project with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons.
Jinzhou Changzhou thin sheet is mainly based on low-end products.
Zhangjiagang Hong Kong Star tinplate project of 100,000 tons is currently entering the phase of construction.
Except that Baosteel and Wuhan Iron and Steel can produce their own substrates for tinplate, the rest are imported substrates. Due to strong market demand, other privately-owned manufacturers producing cold-rolled, galvanized and color plates also started to launch tinplate production lines, especially the tin-plated narrow-band plants in Wuxi, Jiangyin and Changzhou, which have sprung up rapidly.
3 Overview of Domestic Downstream Industries
In recent years, it has become commonplace for plastic packaging to replace metal packaging in many areas. However, in some special fields such as beer, beverages, medicine, food, canning, chemical, military supplies and cosmetics, metal packaging people still play an irreplaceable role in other packaging. The following will be a brief introduction to the situation of China's metal packaging industry.
1. Metal plate printing: According to incomplete statistics, by the year 2003, there were about 800 metal plate printings in the country, and more than 300 coating machines. Among them, domestic and imported iron stamping machines each accounted for half, while the domestic proportion of coating machines is relatively large. Most of the iron printing machines are monochrome and two-color. Shanghai Baosteel Group Baoyin Metal Coating Co., Ltd. introduced Germany's first fully automated, high-precision six-color printing iron production line. It was put into production in September 2005, and this production line has increased domestic metal plates. Printing technology equipment and level.
2. Two-piece and three-piece cans: There are more than 200 three-piece beverage can production lines with tinplate as raw materials in China (about 60% imported from abroad), of which 40% of high-speed production lines are 800-1200 cans per minute, and the rest are In the low- and medium-speed production lines, an average of 400 cans per minute, with an annual production capacity of 25 billion cans, but the current actual consumer demand is only about 9 billion cans. Blind introduction causes serious oversupply, but with the economic growth and the improvement of people’s lives, there is bound to be room for development. Domestic beverage cans consumed about 9 billion in 2005 and is expected to reach 15.5 billion by 2010.
3. Aerosol cans: Aerosol canisters were first widely used in hygienic insecticide, chemical, and cosmetics applications. However, with the development in new fields, such as food, air fresheners, and pharmaceuticals, the dosage is also Year by year, from 30 million cans in the mid-1980s to 560 million cans in 2002. In 2003, it was urgently needed to increase the consumption of SARS to 610 million cans. In 2005, the demand increased to 800 million cans, which is metal packaging. The fastest-growing variety, and in the future the market still has a lot of room for development.
4, various types of caps: metal caps include aluminum easy to pull cover, anti-theft cap and tinplate unscrewing cover, yellow crown cover,
This product is mostly used in canned food industry. At present, China has more than 150 imported stamping production lines. The annual production capacity of various types of bottle caps amounts to 75 billion, and the actual market demand is 50 billion. Supply exceeds demand.
5, Miscellaneous cans: Miscellaneous cans are mainly used for solid food, stationery, medicine, toys, gifts and various special-shaped
tank. The gift box for export packaging is the main export of Chinese metal cans. The current market demand is about 6.5 billion. It is estimated that the output of Chinese cans will reach 8 billion in 2010.
6, chemical barrels: chemical barrels mainly refers to 1-18 liters below the keg. Mainly used for raw materials, chemical coatings and paints, lubricants and other transit packaging, the amount has been rising, to the end of the 15th period, production increased by 58.2%, reaching 6.8 billion.
7. Empty cans for cans: According to incomplete statistics, canned tins have about 4 billion tin cans annually, promising future in the case of increasing export and domestic sales.
8. Steel drums: At present, the production capacity of 35-200-liter steel drums in the country has reached more than 80 million. With the development of the chemical and petroleum industries, it is expected that there will be substantial growth in the future.
In addition, tinplate has become more and more widely used in high-tech fields. Such as electronics industry, home appliance industry, etc.
With the improvement of the domestic electronics and home appliance industries, we believe that in the future, usage in this area will also increase year by year.
4 International market conditions
By the end of 2005, there were about 130 tinplate production lines in the world, with a production capacity of about 20 million tons, and the actual output was about 1400 to 15 million tons, of which the output of the world's major economically developed countries was more than 10 million tons. Among them, the output of tinplate in the United States is far ahead, and its tinplate production accounts for approximately 15.5% of the world's total output.
Japan is the second largest producer of tinplate in the world, accounting for about 10% of the world's tinplate production. France and Germany rank third and fourth respectively. It is noteworthy that unlike the Western developed countries, the production of tinplate in some Asian countries and regions (such as South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, etc.) has made rapid progress in recent years, and tinplate production has been rising year after year.
According to the 2004 statistics of the European Market Iron and Steel Federation, the global tinplate packaging market has a total apparent demand of 16.2 million tons and a total supply of 15.7 million tons. The total demand is slightly greater than the total supply. The top three suppliers and demanders are: Asia, Western Europe and North America.
Under the condition that the total amount of supply and demand is basically balanced, the contradiction between local supply and demand is still very prominent. The Asian region is characterized by strong demand and supply (supply and demand: 530:580/9%). In Western Europe, the market is characterized by a weak market and oversupply (supply and demand: 450:390/13.3%).
5 Outlook
◆ Steady growth in consumer demand. As the economy heats up, people’s living standards gradually increase, and the awareness of environmental protection increases. The demand for tinplate will continue to increase. Industry insiders believe that by 2006, China will consume 2 million tons of tinplate and reach 2.5 million tons in 2009. In 2012, it will reach 3 million tons of annual consumption.
â—† As the entire tin plating industry in China is in the development stage, the industrial concentration is low, which leads to disorderly market competition, and it also means that the phenomenon of vicious competition is inevitable.
