The most effective way to verify the quality of design and construction is also the strongest foundation for continuous improvement. Recently, a Russian construction company has introduced an innovative concept: a "rotating tower that connects the central hub of the water supply line." This idea has already been granted a patent. The system allows for the supply of water, gas, drainage, and both hot and cold water through pipes fixed along the axis of the rotating tower. Additionally, electrical and communication lines—such as telephone cables—can be routed through brushed reducers mounted in the same area.
The water and gas supply pipes are connected via a rotating plug and a specialized sealing mechanism. These coaxial connections allow the pipes to rotate together with the floor while maintaining a secure connection. At the same time, the rotating plug and connecting tube remain stationary, ensuring stability and preventing leaks. In the narrowest central duct, which runs through the entire structure and extends to all branches of the rotating building, it’s possible to transport hot water or even people, making this system highly versatile.
A large-diameter external relay reducer is linked to the drainage system. For overall maintenance, it’s sufficient to periodically check the condition of the oil seals and tighten any loose nuts to prevent leaks. While this technology is patented, some may question its practicality—whether the benefits justify the cost of constructing a rotating building. However, if the design remains simple and the price remains reasonable, there could still be viable applications.
A great example is the restaurant located on the Ostankin TV Tower. It features three rotating ring-shaped floors, offering visitors a unique dining experience. People love it because they can enjoy meals while taking in panoramic views of the city and natural surroundings, creating a refreshing and comfortable atmosphere. Although rotating restaurants or hotels may not be essential for daily life, they have a strong appeal and can attract attention, adding a special touch to modern architecture.
