Turning waste into treasure, using new chairs made by Japanese designers with waste tiles

At the just-concluded Cologne International Furniture Fair, Japanese designer Tsuyoshi Hayashi brought his stools made of discarded tiles. These tiles come from Takahashi, Japan, a city with a long history of tile manufacturing, and the tiles are also extremely resistant to high temperatures and water. Through careful grinding, the designer creates an ergonomic curvature of the discarded tiles to ensure the comfort of sitting, plus a wooden bracket, a stool that turns waste into treasure. In Gaobin City, more than 65,000 pieces of tiles are damaged in production and sent to landfills every year. The design of Tsuyoshi Hayashi has undoubtedly brought new life to these discarded tiles.
